In my possession I have what looks like a 1906 gold 20 Mark from Hamburg (J hallmark). Can anyone tell me if 20 marks were minted in Hamburg in 1906? I'm trying to find out if this is a fake. Thanks!

Hello and welcome,

According to Krause Hamburg 20 Mark gold coins were minted in 1908 and 1913 with 14 known in 1908 and 491,000 in 1913. So chances are your 1906 J is not real. Any chance of posting a picture?

misrid76- I am certainly not an expert of this type of coin, but this one looks fake. The luster and fields just don't look quite right. Also the green junk that is stuck to the reverse also would probably not be seen on a real gold coin unless it was PVC damage. Honestly, I think that this may be a modern reproduction or possibly a contemporary counterfeit.

This one is a restrike minted in the 60-80's I think.
Check the density. It does not look like gold to me.
