When I was a kid my family was stationed on the last military base on the African continent at Tripoli Libya. We would go on family outings to the roman ruins which were well preserved. This coin was sold to us by a caretaker at the roman city of Leptis Magna. They had huge balls of these coins in giant masses stuck together in the museum. Is there anyone can tell me anything about it? I've been told it is virtually worthless but would still like to know something about it. It's a family memory.

I just saw a post on bronze disease. Is this the green area on the cheek? Do I need to do something?

Not true. It's a desirable coin of superior style - although, yes, if that's BD, it should be treated. Are the greens spots soft and powdery?

To give you some sense of value, see the sold prices here:

Yes, a beautiful coin. I hope it's not BD, I'd hate to risk losing that beautiful greenish patina.

I have a Carthaginian coin with some Verdigris, which may be the case for your coin.

Would it harm the coin if I did the BD treatment and it wasn't BD? If it won't harm it then maybe I should just to be safe?

First take a wooden coctail stick and scrape the green areas around the cheek and see if they are powdery or solid?

@JoeVet
Lucky you. The focus of my collection is on the Severan Dynasty, the founder of which hailed from Leptis Magna. It is my hope to visit the site someday when it is safe to do so.

That is a very nice Carthaginian bronze, and unlike many coins sold to tourists, appears to be genuine. Treat the BD carefully. You have a nice piece of history there.

Using the method posted in that thread, It changed the patina/color on mine, but it was an overcleaned coin. I'm not sure what it would do to yours. In my case, I was happy with the darker color.
