Can't quite figure it out. It almost looks like part of the original coin. It's a consistent even look on the Obv and Rev. It's also like some type of satin reverse proof finish. It seems to be speckled, like a sand blasting.

I even soaked it in acetone. It's probably ED. Any thoughts?

Yea, mine looks more like acid, yours looks sandblasted with that satin look. They both could be acid or blasted. PMD though

The coins look like spenders from what I can see. If a coin is altered, it is just a face value coin. Mint errors have to be something that the mint did. Not something that someone die to alter a coin in circulation.

Mint errors are done at the mint? Glad that been clarified. MOS, our damaged coins I said were PMD sandblasted or acid arent worth millions.

Yes, mint errors occur during the minting process before they leave the mint.

Where did you find your 70-D?

Found it years ago and thought it was cool looking and tossed it in the ODD tube. Things like magicians coins and stuff in there. I have a coin thats a machined out copper reverse with a 90s obv put in it..lol
I guess better to keep them then have someone sell them on ebay
