This site mentions such tokens but there is debate about C.W & Co being the same as C.W. Ltd.

I would agree that C W & Co is NOT Coote & Warren, whose series of tokens are different. In my opinion the coal (and Madeira) attribution is a red herring because I do have identified farm tokens (from Kent, England) with the same "hatched" reverse.

One example from an auction house, listed on that other forum, states that these tokens are from Madeira. Which would make sense, given that the OP is from Portugal and Madeira is a Portuguese island, and that this is not the only such token the OP has found; here's a token numbered "8". There does seem to be some debate as to exactly what they were used for, but a Madeira origin seems probable to me.

By "origin" I mean point of use. They could well have been made by the same Kentish token manufacturer, hence the similarity in design to English farm tokens.

The other tokens are zinc. It's had to tell from the OP's pic whether it is black (zinc) or brown (bronze).
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
