I am new, trying to figure out how to identify a legit double die. On this coin the letters look enlarged, but can that be from wear? I am also working on my coin photo skills :)
Looks like circulation wear and extreme die wear affected your coin. There was a big push at the time to create replacements for the silver coinage at this time. (year 2) So they probably run the dies way to long on the dies that struck your coin. Note how the devices sizes are affected by die wear and the flow lines growing stronger with die aging. It is a gradual process, but knowing step by step helps us to see what I'm always talking about with die aging. Is that as bad as it gets? No.
@coop thank you! That is interesting and makes sense , I have examples of a few of those stages and wondered about them! Thank you for the lesson today!
I'm always here to add to the knowledge of new ones. If I don't have something in my image files, I can make new ones to help you see, what I see on your coin. I like to keep it simple and to the point.
