This note is an obvious replica Republic of Texas note being sold as genuine.

Aside from it clearly looking like a replica note, a 60-second search on google shows serial number 40 listed as a fake/replica note. I reported it to ebay and sent a message to the seller, but I doubt it will come down before it sells. It is at $68 right now, which is very low for a genuine note, but very high for this. I often wonder what a person's dollar threshold might be to purchase something without the slightest idea about what they are purchasing. Apparently, for someone, it is at least $68. We'll see how high that goes.

Good job captain,

The seller add this on the selling description:

Quote:"On Feb-06-21 at 17:00:23 PST, seller added the following information:
Please note that I can not guarantee the notes authenticity. It is part of my father's estate and unaware of it's origin. Some have come forward to say it is counterfeit. Please bid at your own discretion."

I am actually shocked that he added that to the listing. He send me a message as well, so maybe he is not trying to scam folks and simply doesn't know any better. However, the person who already bid $68 isn't likely to go back and relook at the description.
