1864-2-Cent-Piece-With-Reverse-Upside-Down

I can't illustrate this obviously but suffice to say the reverse is upside down. (If you turn the coin horizontally the reverse is right side up) Is this rare?

The Two Cent "rotated dies" for this year are fairly common. The same holds true for Indian cents, dated 1864. My guess is that someone working at the Philly Mint must've had a screw loose that year.

There are some collectors who will pay a slight premium for this common mint error.

BTW .... to the CCF!

Thanks. I now see from ebay that the premium is nil even for 180 degree rotations which this is.

The 1864 two-cent piece with rotated dies between 90 and 180 degrees is given an R1 rarity rating at the rotated die census, meaning there are over 1000 known/believed to exist with significant rotated dies.

Interesting! Now, if Whitman created an album hole for these, demand would likely sky-rocket.

For comparison's sake, NGC alone has graded over 6,000 of the 1937-D three-legged nickels. That's an even more common error.
