A typical "tribute penny" of Tiberius. It tested positive on silver. But I'm still not sure what to think of it. Did it survive the ages this well or is t a good fake? What do you think? 3.0 gr. Edited by Archeo1982 02/15/2021 7:23 pm

That does not look "well survived". Heavily tooled or outright fake.

Archeo1982 - I'm sorry to say, but the surfaces and the lettering really do not look right to me. It seems most likely fake.

@archeo, can you please post a couple pics of the edge? Thx. For sure the fields are quite porous and I wonder if there will be any evidence of a casting seam.

At best it's a Limes, but most likely fake.

I wouldn't buy it. The missing details and pebbly surface yell "cast copy" and the patina looks too much like acrylic paint wash --or maybe just soot. When surfaces are so worn down that details are rubbed off (as happens), then why would the raised surfaces not be smooth? Instead they have the cast-coin gritty texture apparently --it's a "detail" that "should" rub away if they were really handled so much.

Cast fake, not a particularly good one.

That was what I feared. I got this one a present from family last year. I believe it wasn't that expensive, but still more than one should pay for a fake. I "Aggressively" cleaned it a bit to see more details. ]

According to my family it was purchased from the Britisch ebay seller: rainraw in august 2019.

That seller is on the "Notorious Fake Seller list" NFSL.
Sorry about that, I can't say it's never happened to me.

This is interesting: I wrote this Rainraw an e-mail about the fake coin and got this answer:
"Good morning If you don't like it you can send me back and I'll give you full refund Sorry for any inconvenience Have a nice day Thanks"
