I've noticed on ebay that the term 'brown box' is referred to when describing certain Eisenhower dollars. What are they talking about?

Proof, 40% silver, Ikes minted between 1971 and 1974 were issued in brown "woodgrain" boxes, hence the term Brown Ike.
During the same period, 40% silver, uncirculated Ikes were issued in heavy blue envelopes. These coins are often referred to as Blue Ikes.

Hard to know how much the box matters in valuing the item. When they first they came out I remember many folks thinking nothing ot the cheap brown boxes (that matched the cheap wood paneled walls we had popular in the 70s in "rec rooms"). Do folks even care about the boxes today?
Stay well, Diy89Nurm7

To be honest the coins are for my Whitman album. Unless someone tells me otherwise all of the packaging would go into the garbage.

Very little action on my Ike album atm. I have a couple of proof sets coming to open up. I've been focused mainly on my Kennedy album. I've filled about 40 holes.

Quote: Do folks even care about the boxes today? I kept the brown boxes and lenses from the Ikes I cracked to put in my Dansco. I still have the blue envelopes as well. Actually, I still have all the lenses and cardboard sleeves from the proof sets I cracked to fill my Dansco albums. I could not bring myself to just toss any of them. They are all together in a storage box taking up nominal space.

@jbuck
Do you think there is any real reason to hang onto all of the packaging?
