Hey folks! This is only my second post so I hope I'm in the right spot, since I'm not really sure this is an error. I inherited some bags of wheat cents from an uncle of mine, and I've seen a few that look a bit like the attached photos, with the 1945 being the one that has the most severe markings. Is this just damage from circulation? Any info would be helpful! I'm new to collecting--I'm impressed by how quickly you all ID things on these threads. I don't know how you do it!

Thanks,

Hannah

@levelsofmadnes I was trying to think of what could have caused it! OK so all of the ones that look similar to that with the crazy peels and pock marks, I'll set aside as "parking lot coins" haha. Thanks!

yes, easy to recreate by stepping on a coin then sliding the coin forward using downward pressure.

...not that I have tried it

This certainly is not "normal circulation" this is above average damage, perhaps from a parking lot, perhaps some other abuse, but definitely post mint damage ( PMD). Keep searching!

To CCF , Best to just throw it into a wishing well and wish that you don't find anymore pennies like that in those bags .

Put it back into circulation - let someone else find it.

Wow, something certainly did a number on those coins. Even with a bit of road rash, you got some cool colors going through these cents :)
