I'm wondering if there are San Francisco minted Ike dollars out there that are NOT 40% silver. Based on digging around online I have come across some pages that say "All 40% silver Ikes are S-mint, but not all S-mint Ikes are 40% silver", while others don't distinguish...and I haven't seen any S-mint Ikes that don't say "silver" in the description. Can anyone help?

A quick look at the Red Book says there are 1973-S and 1974-s CuNi Ikes.

To the CCF
You can also find this information by looking under
"US Coin Facts" in the left hand column.
There is much information to be found there.

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll admit that the column on the left is intimidating for a new member.

The non-silver S mint Ikes are all proof issues. Any that are not would be an error (wrong planchet) or a fake.

There are cu/ ni '73-S through '78-S Ike dollars with S mints in proof.

Curiously before the run up in silver the cu ni coins were all more valuable than the 40% silver with the exception of the '73-S silver proof. Attrition on the cu/ ni's is higher than the silvers. But now days more than half the silver coins have been ruined by tarnish and spotting.

The '75/ '76 cu/ ni proofs are actually type I and type II bicentennials so there are five different but only four dates.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

There are two known "blue Ikes", I believe both 1973 S, that were accidently struck on Copper nickel clad planchets. And of course there are copper nickel clad proof coins for 1973 to 1978.
