I notice the new thread of the $200 million note.
I was wondering if this was the highest denomination bank note that would be reasonable to purchase?
if it's not, then what is?

There's people bidding on these ones (especially the new ones) like crazy, so the 200m will probably be around ... 20-50.
You can try to find the old series Zimbabwes (100 billion)
And the Yugoslavian 500 billion. I got the entire set for $1, but I think that was because no one was bidding on it at the time.

Quote: Or the Hungarian Adopengo series. Ah... yes.... the infamous B-pengos. Unfortunately they didn't have the numbers. Also as news, the RBZ just released new 1, 5, 10 billion notes today.

The German 1923 50, 100, 500 million, and 1 "milliarde" (billion) are also available and cheap.

The Zimbabweans are getting closer, but haven't overtaken postwar Hungary yet. I'll give them another month. Hungarian 10,000,000,000,000,000 pengo note. This is by no means the highest number; notes of one sextillion pengo (that's a 1 followed by 21 zeroes) were printed, but never issued - by the time they were printed, they were already worthless. According to my catalogue, Hungarian hyperinflation notes are cheap, but I've never seen any for sale from the dealers around here.

Hey Sean, Here's the pic http://thelongestlistofthelongestst...rgest39.htmlIt's quite sad that it doesn't have the number printed on it. For that, that would have to be the Yugoslavian 500 billion. If you want to see a pic, reply to me and I'll get a pic up asap

The longestlist site has a minor error; it lists the US$100,000 note as the highest actual face value note listed anywhere. But the Bank of England has issued even higher valued notes: several £1 million and £100 million notes were printed for use as backing by Scottish and Northern Irish banknote-issuing banks. I believe these are the banknotes with the highest actual value.

Just a quick question: in Australia, are NZD notes also used? Like in US and Canadian border, the two currencies are accepted 1:1

To answer your question wd1040, no, New Zealand currency isn't legal tender in Australia. Before they changed their coinage, many 5,10 and 20 cent pieces were passed off as Australian, and many people didn't look closely enough to tell the difference. Today though, An Australian dollar converts to approximately NZ$1.23.

I bet they wish it was still Rhodesia with the Brits in charge.
It won't end until they get rid of Mugabe.

Makes the Z$1 coin I have from that country seem pretty valueless.
