I have this 1986 D LMC with what appears to be a doubled ear however, there isn't any mention in the books for this. I'm not saying this is but trying to get a better understanding. Looking at the photos there is a raised area just below the bottom of the ear. Not sure if it's a plating issue making it look that way, or some other issue. I don't see any plating issues on either side of the entire coin. On the reverse, there is what looks like either dirt or an imperfection to the right of Lincoln but need help to see if that lines up with what I'm seeing below the ear. While looking at the penny overlays on the internet I'm confused as to whatever that defect is on the right side of the memorial if it lines up with the bottome of the ear in question. Please help me understand

This is right up Coops alley! He should be able to give you an overlay of both sides.

However, I think that the 2 marks do not line up. If you split the cent down the middle vertically, on the Obverse the mark under the ear is on the left side of the line - on the Reverse the dent is on the right side.

By the ear lobe looks like a hit with displaced metal.

Here is a close up of the normal ear. (image on the left)

Do you see the hole on the area in question. It looks more lie a air bubble that was split. (Possible toothpick issue?) But is doesn't look anything like an ear.
