Hi all,
I'm thinking of sending this coin for grading. 1965 sms with some frostiness. There's an object going through LIBERTY. I don't think it's a scratch?! Is this worth sending and is this a MINT ERROR which gives this more or less value and would I have to pay for attribution service?
Thanks.

I looks like a minor strike through error. It won't affect the grade since the coin left the mint that way. I don't think it would be worth paying for variety attribution since it's so minor.

It would need to grad MS68 or higher to justify cost to have it slabbed and I do not think it grades that high. Lest say it does grade 68,but with the strike through anyone collecting it for a high grade would not want it with a strike through. IMHO.http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/price...ices61.shtml

EDIT: I am not positive it is a SMS.Looks regular to me.

It is a struck through, how can I tell it was not post strike?. On a struck though after the strike, the affected area will show splash of the areas where the normal strike was. A movement of metal with a wave affect. This is not this way. Not wave as the object was struck into the coin, thus the design of the die, prevented a wavy. So this is the real deal. Nice find. But as mentioned, the price of slabbing it would well exceed the value of the coin. (Some most collectors don't know until after they have payed the fees. Nice find.

I'd suggest throwing it on ebay unless you really want to keep it. The market for more minor errors like that is on fire right now and you can even reuse the pictures you provided.

Neat strike through error for a SMS cent - I'd definitely keep it but just put it in a 2x2.
