1987 P Roosevelt Dime Dented Coin Reeding Help Not PMD ?

themaineway Valued Member United States 92 Posts	Posted 03/01/2021 12:20 pm Hi I would usually throw out as PMD, seeing the coin was hit so hard to show on the obv and rev of the coin but I looked closer and from what I can tell it was somewhere in the strike/eject process? I ask for help on this because when looking at rev the hit point at 2 is concaved and directly in the center of the coins edge and shows both on obv and rev BUT the hit point at 10 is only half the reeding and the reeding is neither interrupted nor dented in the hit in any way and shows only on the rev. themaineway Valued Member United States 92 Posts	Posted 03/01/2021 1:24 pm Thank you JimmyD I'm still having a hard time grasping PMD Hits straight across 3-9 and mashing the reeding absolutely but such a hard hit at 9-2 +- and not seeing a third point of contact and leaving the reeding looking untouched without mashing them while pushing in that far in on only 1/2 the coins edge ...? possible I guess ? I dont know all the exact minting processes that might or might not have the ability to do this and will have to accept the concensus even though I have a hard time reasoning as to how ...... JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21630 Posts	Posted 03/01/2021 3:25 pm There are hundreds of ways that damage can occur to a coin but there are a limited number of things that can cause an error. You might not always know what caused the damage unless you were there, what is important is to know that there is no way that could happen during the striking of the coin therefore it has to be damage.
