In other words it is a one off unlike a Doubled Die which is part of the die and therefore would have as many coins as that die struck before being retired. Report this Post to the Staff

coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 03/01/2021 7:39 pm Machine Doubling can also be different from strike to strike: Doubled dies show same doubling on each strike and can be affected by machine doubling. They are still doubled dies, but with Machine Doubling. A normal die with Machine Doubling is not a doubled die. Because the doubling is on the die. (not caused by the machine) All 4 are the same DDO, but the yellow arrows will point to the Machine Doubling. Report this Post to the Staff
Jim0815 Pillar of the Community United States 5239 Posts	Posted 03/01/2021 7:47 pm Yours is Machine Doubling like this cent in my collection. There are two types of Machine Doubling. One is flat and shelf like and the design is reduced in size. The second is a high bounce Machine Doubling which is what I see in your cent. The high bounce happens when the die slightly bounces after the initial strike but when the die comes back down it doesn't come back down in the same place leaving the appearance of doubling. And what exactly is the limit on how wide or "spread" the letters can be in order for me to realize count it as a doubled die? THANKS AGAIN! Report this Post to the Staff

And means that the doubled porting of the device might be smaller but the orginal die stamped device will always remain its exact size and shape no matter how many times its stamped again?
