Sorry the picture is not real clear. The D looks different on this penny than other. How can I get better pictures?

It appears your coin has been plated--rather heavily. Note the shiny, gooey look--especially evident on the reverse. The mint mark is somewhat 'reshaped' by the thick plating. Compare the surfaces of your coin with the surfaces on normal '44 D cents found on the web.

It is PMD of some sort, heavy polishing? Coated in shellac?

Coin has been plated, appears be a G level coin, worth exactly 1 cent.
