I am by no means an expert on the Gepids, but I do have one (discussed on this thread: http://goccf.com/t/284244) as does one of our other members (discussed on this thread: http://goccf.com/t/192446). I will say that the surface characteristics of your piece is quite different, but I am not knowledgeable enough to know if that is a problem. A lot can happen to a coin in ~1500 years. I wonder if you could post the diameter and mass of this piece. Also, is the current color/toning as blast white as your pictures suggest? That may account for what appears to be metal that has flowed on the Obv. and on the Rev. lettering as well as the tiny bubbles on the Rev. surface. What do you think? Report this Post to the Staff

The chipping of the edge at 9-10 o'clock seems consistent with so many of these that are in pieces.
