I just found this today while helping to clean out my parents house. I am big into searching for errors in US coins but don't know anything about but I really hope it is worth a lot. I think I am seeing some die breaks around the lettering. I searched on google and found a wide range of prices if anyone has a good est. on how much this could be worth I would appreciate it. I tried to have a little glare as possible but the plastic it was in made it hard.

Looks genuine to me. A British gold sovereign weighs 7.3224g and gold is around $39 per gram.

They do look like die breaks around the lettering to me, but other CCF members may have other ideas. Such things don't really affect the value of British coins. UK collectors are just not into minor varieties and errors in the way that US collectors are.

Just to clarify - British sovereign weighs 7.9881g of 22 carat gold, which equates to 7.3224 of pure gold.

And to confirm - minor die cracks are of virtually no interest to UK collectors. With the level of wear the value of the OP coin is bullion.

Beautiful coin, but Paddy B's comments are why I am not crazy about gold.

The raw cost of gold coins is too high for me and many of the Sovereigns and Half sovereigns saw jumbo mintages meaning coins like the OP's which is at least gVF are still not worth above bullion and a few % unless its Gem UNC or a rare date.

Yet for the same amount of money you can buy some truly beautiful and rare silver and bronze coins of the same vintage.
