Hi,

I have been looking at some Lincoln Shield Pennies and cam across this one. It looks like it has an extra piece of metal pressed into Lincolns chin. I pushed on it think it might be beginning to copper flake off but it does not collapse or move. Ideas what happened?

Perhaps a small interior die break. Hard to tell from the photo because there's a lot of glare. Not anything of significant numismatic interest, at any rate.
