I am starting a Franklin half collection and I'm trying to decide on the best method of storage and display. These will be business strikes, nothing fancy. So I will be placing them in most likely one of three folders: Dansco, Intercept Shield and Whitman Classic. What are thoughts behind these three options? Pluses and minuses? Are there other options to suggest? Thanks in advance! Mike

Mike, I would go with the Dansco. If your concerned about further toning, go with the Intercept Shield. I love their snap-type holders.

If they're circulated and "nothing fancy", you can save yourself a few bucks by getting a used Whitman Classic. They're nice - more compact than a Dansco.
As far as physical protection, all are very similar - it gets down to which one you find more attractive.
For protection against the elements, Intercept Shield. You'll pay a bit more though.
Frankly, if these are not bookshelf display items, I'd buy a few Whitman/Dansco albums, get a small plastic container/tub and one of those Silica Gel things to protect against humidity. This quite frankly offers the best protection and maximizes money to buy actual coins.

I will vote for Dansco since that is what I use! I want to make sure you are talking about the albums (where you can see both sides of the coin) and not folders (where the backside of the coin is not visible). Dansco and Whitman make both folders and albums. If you prefer blue to brown, then the Whitman will probably please you more. Many will say that Danscos are made better, but I think the Whitmans are better than most like to admit. I recommend going to a coin show and ask the dealers about used ones. Many times they will buy collections in them, take the coins out, and set the albums aside. Just Carl has been known to get some for free at coin shows!

Just Carl has been known to get some for free at coin shows! Now I never thought of that! Bummer...I was just at the Southwest Money Show a few weeks back here in Houston. Dansco and Whitman make both folders and albums. I am definitely talking about the albums where you can see both sides. Given all that I've heard here I am leaning towards Whitman. I have old Whitman FOLDERS with LHCs in them and I do like the blue color of their albums and folders...plus the price seems to be about 30% less than Dansco.

I started with Whitman folders and have always been fond of the blue, but then a friend of my grandfather talked me into using Dansco albums. I did not even know Whitman made an album until a few years later!

Airtites, 2x2's, 2x2 plastic pages and a 3-ring binder! Total flexability rather than being forced to what an album manufacturer thinks you should have in your collection.

I used Dansco's for everything but recently switched to BadThad's method and love it. I can organize my coins however I like now and also know that they are safe.

I just bought some plastic 2x2 pages and a binder, and I am going to go with a blend of Danisco's and 2x2 pages. When I have enough of a set to justify the album, I will move them into there...
