Out of these two cameras which would be the better for taking photos of coins Canon EOS Rebel T1i DSLR 75-300mm, or Canon EOS Digital Rebel Xsi? I have no clue want any of this means but I am getting a good deal on either one.

Hi Minnimarine,
The T1i has 15MP vs the XSi 12MP, so the T1i is probably a better choice. However, the 75-300mm lens won't work well for coins. It won't focus close enough.

He added two lenses 18-55, and 75-300. Am I still gonna need a macro lens?

The 18-55mm can shoot Dollars pretty well, but not smaller coins. I use if only for full slabs, proof sets, etc. If you want to shoot down to Dimes, you'll need a macro lens of some type. Note that you can do pretty well with a helicoid and 75mm enlarging lens fairly cheaply, and it can go smaller than dimes. See the "<$400" thread for more details.

He said he has a macro lens. He took a picture of a quarter and showed me. Ok awesome so now I know where I am going. If I can't get the macro then get the helicoid and 75mm enlarging lens. Most appreciated. Thank you.

I own a T6i a few years newer you can't go wrong. In fact I just put an order in for Rays helicoil/lens set up. Looking forward to giving it a try later this month. Good luck on your purchase it's only money but well spent!

Would a XSi 28-90mm 2x quantaray coupler macro lens adapter work good? I just got offered the whole set up for $220.00. Shutter only has 1447. He said hardly used.

You would do better with the 18-55mm with 2x teleconverter but the image will be a bit fuzzy. Camera sounds good though, but maybe still a bit expensive.

I need to learn camera language. This absolutely Greek to me. I copied the list on this forum and I'm not buying yet. I'm gonna go learn first so I get what I need and noton impulse. I'm thinking at least a T5i or so. But I need a macro lens or a helicoid lens. Thanks all.... was just about to waiste money and end up not happy with it. Most thankful.

I would personally recommend the T7 (not T7i) at this point as a good mid-level camera for coins. The camera I have recommended for 9 years (and still recommend) is the Rebel XS, but for some Mac computers the EOS utility software does not work on anything older than the T7, so it is the safest model to recommend now for all platforms. It's a lot more expensive than the XS but it is 24MP so quite a bit more resolution, so probably worth it.

I can get the xs set up for $200, or the T3i for $300.

I can get the xs 12.0 mp set up for $200, or the T3i 18.0 mp for $300. Ifth XS works I would rather just spend the $200.
