Saw an advertisement for a sale on an online coin dealer offering 1 gram Turkish bars for only $20 over spot. If that's the sale price, I can't imagine the standard premium on a Turkish gold gram bar. Is there a premium on Engelhard 1 gram gold bars?

I have 2-1 gram Pamp gold bar that I bought years ago, and premium was always high, but $20 over spot? These has small copper spots, so I don't know how pure they are? The packaging probably takes 1/3 of the premium. ebay prices are more then triple to what I pay.

I assume by $20 over spot they mean $20 over melt which would put around $75. That's a typical markup for 1 gram gold bars. If genuine, a 1 gram Engelhard bar would bring a significantly higher premium than $20 over melt. Likely double melt or more. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Engelhard-...203305875264

Swapped both grams for $12 at the LCS. 2 64 Kennedys, 2 Franklins, and 40 (pre-65) Washington quarters including a 35s in VF (but cleaned) and a borderline F/VF 37s. May see if I can get some extra for the latter.

I wouldn't bother. Premiums on any bullion size under 1oz are huge. Buy the biggest size you can afford (or transport, hide, whatever). You could also try to trade down: buy 1, 10z bar, and you could probably find someone to trade it even for 10, 1oz rounds. The bar was cheaper for you to buy and you end up with the same amount of silver, but the rounds may be more convenient depending on your situation. I for one never bought silver in anything less than 10oz bars (then later 100oz), and gold/platinum 1oz rounds. But that's me.

Nice one. I am trying to find as much information about Engelhard bars as possible. Any way what is so special about them? According to this source https://cutgems.org/why-are-engelha...-worth-more/ they even worse more. Why is that? Can you please share your opinion.

1 gram gold bars have higher premiums as do 1/10 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/2 oz. But IMO it's good to have some small bars to barter/trade in bad times. Also I bought 1 gram gold bars to give to grandkids. A few years ago I bought a couple 1 gram gold bars $49 each. Today they are worth about $58 melt. For stacking it's better save your money and buy 1 oz gold if you can afford it. Buy from reputable dealers, there are fake 1 gram bars in fake assay holders.
Engelhard and other vintage bars can have collectible value above melt, that's why they can sell for more. I have an early Engelhard 1980s 100 oz silver bar my dad gave me before he died.

Yes 1 gram is really small and high premium. I wouldn't make it a big part of a stack, but I think fun to have a few.

Yes, I admit that I have a few 1 g Canadian Maples in my hoard. I got them from a Black Friday Sale. I think they were almost at spot. But that is the only time I'd get them, if they were heavily discounted. I really don't collect gold because I'm not disciplined enough to save up for 1 ounce. When I get some spare money, I tend to either buy silver or the 1/10 ounce gold pieces. And it is mostly silver. To be honest, the only reason I am getting the 1/10 ounce is because I bought one, then I bought 20 capsules and a tube that would hold 20 capsules. So my OCD now wants to fill up that tube. My goal is to fill up that tube and get at least one 1 oz this year.

So I just followed my advice and went to that website to find some companies' prices for 1 g gold. There were no hits. So sorry for the bad advice. It does work for 1/10 oz gold. I just use it as a guideline. When I actually buy something, I'll go to the 17 different places that I mentioned to see what the actual price is. Because I need to know the price if I just buy one, and that site shows the lowest price.
