Most of the lead coins I see this old are in pretty bad shape. This one was a surprise as still shows a lot of detail.

Nice one! Here is the one that lead (pun intended) me to CCF back in 2011. It is in really rough shape.

Lead makes sense for counterfeits of silver coins as the densities are similar, but less sense for base metal denomination coinage.

A lead cent is one of the stranger counterfeits I've seen. Why not make it out of copper? They weigh and look completely different

I think I have at least one lead Wheat penny in my collection as well. Not sure at all what they were looking to accomplish with that. Maybe not a counterfeit effort but some odd project someone did for a county fair or something.
