I have only been serious about this hobby for about a year, and I find my view has changed a bit. At first I was happy to fill a hole with just about any decent looking coin. As I have gotten more knowledgeable, I find that Fine coins generally disappoint me. I love the look of a BU coin, shiny, perfect and just as the designer intended it to look. Now that I am trying to 'round-up' the rest of my buffalos, pardon the pun, I really wish I could afford them all in BU, but unless I hit the lottery this just isn't be feasable. I guess I have to toe the line between condition and price. I find myself resisting, which is about 180 degrees from where I was less then a year ago. What a great obsession hobby.

Don't feel lonely. For most of us, numismatics is "champagne taste on a beer budget."

Wow, you can afford beer?! I'm still wondering where all the free water fountains have gone...

The problem always starts with one nice coin. Once you've got that one nice coin in there making all the others look worn and dirty, you're toast!

If you have a family history of OCD, you are well advised to steer clear of coin collecting!

I am mixed on this. I have collected for over 20 years, starting with circulated coins, progressing to the BUs as income grew. Now I seem to find more pleasure in circulated coins again. BUs look great, but I find they all pretty much look the same, where as an album full of circulated coins has character. And I have no qualms about handling a coin in a lower grade, a BU coin needs more care to keep it that way.

Having said that, there is no way I am gving up my BUs.

If you have 20 Buffalo's same date and mint mark in the same grade to pick from, one is still going stick out to be your favorite of the bunch.
Pick the ones you can afford that you really like the most.

HAHAHAHAHA...happened to me too. I had pretty much all G -EF coins in my Lincolns, now I want all AU/MS. More recently, I decided the lofty goal would be to have one in EACH grade for each date/mint....don't think that I can with Lincolns, there's just too many!
