I've noticed OLD topics being added to and was wondering how OLD is TOO OLD? Members complain about old postings being reincarnated, I looked at the postings and the OP's are either dead or not on CCF anymore. There are some interesting points they share but is it bad practice on this forum to bring up old posts!?

Interesting question. Dredging up old topics--really old--can be tedious. Having said that, posters are (gently?) admonished on occasion for posting anew what was posted in the past--taking heat for not doing 'due diligence' by finding relevant past topics and continuing/expanding a conversation through them.

Perhaps a penalty could be imposed for any member commenting on a post greater than 12 months old (365 days). When crossing the 12 month line, a poster is docked 5 posts from their overall post count for every week past 12 months. Imagine the hit when commenting on a nine year old post. Or, replace their avatar for two weeks with an appropriate, attention getting image. Referring to an old post is fine--no problem there. Commenting on an ancient post triggers the nuclear option. Kidding, of course.

I don't understand . There is nothing wrong with bringing up old posts once in awhile . If you brought up an old post when you first joined CCF I'm sure nobody would mind .

T_BOP... I agree. It doesn't happen all that often, and occasionally good comes from it--new info/new perspectives.

Old topics can sometimes be worth reviewing, and adding new posts, such as
1. New Mint issues made some time ago and how they are now valued in the numismatic after market,
2. Incomplete fake investigations,
3. Changes in Mint marketing strategy,
4. Unanswered questions,
5. Past auction records,
6. development in CCF family topics.
