I bought this Morgan nearly 10 years ago from a reputable dealer. I was told that this was an AU but a really flat strike. What do you think? Thanks!

Very nice coin, based on the wear on the ear and hair above it I think it would grade EF-40.

echizento & CoinHunter53562 - Really, Only EF? Hmmm. Well, I too agreed that it was AU based upon the lack of wear to the wingtips of the eagle as well as how sharp the lettering appears. Honestly, there is even luster on the flat parts above the ear (sorry that this is hard to see in the scan). So I guess this raises the question of just how flat can a flat strike be.

Yeah, flat strike or not,I would only grade it a VF.....too much detail missing from hair and eagles breast

Using a scan to grade is difficult at best. It becomes hard to determine weak strike vs. wear. If it is a weak strike, I agree with AU. Otherwise, XF.
