i had some coins in dansco albums but I know they are not air tight and I like coins in 2x2 holders so I can right the grade etc. on them.

so what I was going to do was buy air tites for my coins then place them in a 2x2 then in to 2x2 pages. does any one else do this and do you find it to be a good storage method.

I had the same questions and found a great solution to my problems thanks to BadThad's methods. ;)

Lots of info in that thread. I just finished up today putting my collection in airtites, I feel relieved now.

I do the same thing as is discussed in the linked thread except I keep the 2x2's in a standard 2x2 storage box. I dunno, I would think the pages would get heavy and cumbersome - but I haven't actually tried that.

I don't want to start a discussion about storage box vs. album pages!!

I have almost all my best Buffalo's in airtites and then in folding 2x2 half in dollar size windows.
Especially the highest grade and spotless ones. Some Jefferson's too. They should stay that way.
I also use a pair of bull nose pliers to flatten my four staples flush to the surface of the 2x2 so they don't scratch the neighboring coins or pages.
The majority of my others are in hard plastic 2x2's with the black foam inserts. Sure hope the foam never disintegrates or gets unstable.

I suspect most people are a little fanatical about the preservation of coinage. Myself, I have well over 100 Whitman Classic Albums full of coins. Each one is in a Zip Lock Plastic bag. Prior to the invention of those I just used plain old simple plastic bags. I also have many coins in 2x2's, plastic rolls, jars, etc. Many of the coins in the albums have been there for over 60 years now and still look the same as when I put them there. Not sure if they will stay the same for several hundred years though. I'll let you know.

Aren't air tites bulky to fit into 2x2s? Does anyone use Kointains?

They are a bit bulky, but putting one staple at the bottom and putting into 2x2 pages tighten everything up and it works great. I have over 400 airtites in 2x2's and in 3 ring binders right now. Works great imo.
