Hi,

Do you know this interesting page on all the fakes from Lipara of the last years in famous Auction houses?

Really very interesting comments...

What do you think of this one in a future sale at Roma Numismatics?

I also copy two genuine samples from the BNF

Thanks for posting this @ancient67....
I'm looking for a Vulcan to add to my 12 Olympian set and did ponder on whether to go for a Lipara coin. They are expensive, at least for me, and looking at some of the fakes from the link I dont feel comfortable moving ahead with this.
I think I'll stick with the Malaca or Samnium types......Appreciate the thread thanks Paul.

Thanks for your comments, Palouche. I am worried too, and find very difficult to distinguish fake from genuine exemplars with this type...

Here is a Samnium AE I added recently to my collection... A nice looking and smiling Hephaistos!

Yes completely agree!.....Some are quite easy to spot now that I've taken the time to look through the links properly but some are 'scaringly'similar to the real thing!

That's a sweet looking Samnium example and would sit in my 12 Olympian set beautifully....Congrats on a lovely addition to your collection.
Seems to be quite a common occurance that the reverses are much more worn?
