So I have a CAPS album for modern commemorative half dollars that come with standard capsules for half dollars. Although it is large, I really like the way it looks once the coins are housed in it. Something I noticed; however, is that the capsules for the Baseball Hall of Fame halves do not completely fit the coin due to it being curved. Other capsule holders (and those that come with the half) do not fit in the CAPS album. Has anyone run into this problem and did you find a workable solution to it?

same issue with the Apollo coins. This is why I was hesitant in getting the second capps album for my commemorative dollars.

As the CAPS albums are sized to specifically hold AirTite brand holders, and AirTite does not currently make deep holders in the size needed for a US half dollar, you are definitely faced with an interesting dilemma.

A couple of thoughts:

1. I would not try to force the coin into the too-shallow AirTite holder, the coin will be damaged - either immediately or in the future. Leave the BB HoF and Apollo 11 coins in their original US Mint capsules and store them outside of the album.

2. If you can, print out color images of the coins sized to fit in the standard half dollar AirTite holder. Secure the obverse and reverse images together and place the "picture disk" into the AirTite, then place the two AirTite holders into the album as placeholders. This will enable you to, at the least, have images of the coins in question w/o the risk of causing damage to them. It's not a perfect solution, but I would find it preferable to damaging the coins.

3. AirTite does make deeper holders for larger coins. You might be able to get a couple of these deeper holders, fit the USM capsule inside of them and then get a CAPS Album page for the larger diameter holders. (Check with AirTite about getting the specific foam rings you would need to secure the USM capsule in the larger holder.) You would then be able to store the curved coins in the same album as the standard coins.

Good luck! I look forward to reading about the solution you go with!
