so I have an NGC AU 58 decent dollar coin. I bought it to go with my NGC 1$ type set, now needed , perhaps, a draped bust coin to complete the set.
For me, the set will look nicer and more consistent if I dip it and then send it back to NGC for grading.
But, what am I doing to the value of the coin, if I proceed ?

Definitely need pics, but I would personally never dip a circulated coin, even a slider.

My Trade, Morgan, and Peace have all been dipped and are in NGC holders. The Morgan and Peace are MS65 and the Trade is AU58...The Seated doesn't really have any luster- looks rather dingy . The only coins I have here to take pics of are the Trade and the Seated; DO you want to see them ?

When silver coins have crappy looking toning I honestly think there is no harm in a quick dip.

I would never consider dipping below AU-58.

If you have a smartphone/touchphone, when a picture is taken, it's in the gallery, then when you get ready to post either new topic or new reply, that is where the optimizer comes in to shrinkwrap photos to upload. Then if you are on a another computer, then I am not sure. I know about the learning curve on this site is something to get used to. I'm sure you will get it, we are here for you. Picture posting aside, I wonder what kind of dip you are using? In the vast majority of the time, one would probably decrease the overall value of the coin by dipping it.

If you dip and send it back to NGC for regrading, there's always the possibility that it will get a details grade for altered surfaces. Also, if you are concerned about a consistent look in your dollar type set, you may run into problems anyway with the draped bust.

both are AU 58 according to NGC...the Trade dollar is silver, and doesn't have the reddish/brown hue showing in the pic

Dipping an AU coin rarely, if ever ends well. It will likely come back details if you dip it and resend to NGC raw. If this one doesn't please you sell it and find one you'll be happy with.
