Here's an interesting one I picked up recently. It's a double florin - 4 shillings - only made for four years. Supposedly servers hated it because although the reverse is different from the crown, the size is similar, and it was easy to give incorrect change.

I'd give this one a VG - F , but I'm just a novice grader. What do the more expert of you think?

Nice pickup. I'd agree with you on the grading.

I agree British grading VG-F OK

Contemporary to the Four Shillings, was the Britannia fourpence (Groat) It was also known as a 'Joey'
12 Groats (Joeys) = one Double Florin.
1888 for the 'Joey' was the only date to bear the Jubilee bust like the Double Florin, same diameter at the Threepence, 120,000 minted.

As a first step towards decimalization to the Pound Sterling,
the Florin was introduced at 10 = One Pound.
The Double Florin was tariffed at 5 to the Pound.

Although the Florin survived and is now a 10 Pence coin,
both the Double Florin and Joey were equally unpopular, the Joey likewise a "Barmaid's Bane".

Both coins a bit weirdo, like the U.S. 20 Cent Double Dime, and the Three Cent 'Trime'.

The double florin did make a comeback in 1982 as a 20 p coin and has been minted since.

The current heptagonal 20P no longer a 'barmaid's bane'.

I do not think a 20 cent coins is "weirdo" 20 cents is quite a common denomination. It fits well in a decimal denomination structure. Of course a 25 cent coin also fits. What is "weirdo", or inconvenient, is to have both a 20 and a 25 cent at the same time!

A 20 cent coin is more convenient than a 25 cent one which will become evident when the minting of 5 cent coin will be stopped when it becomes of a to low value to be of commercial use.

'Weirdo' only in the sense that neither the Double Florin nor the US Double Dime were widely accepted by the Public.
Both were too close in size to their respective next larger denomination.

I agree with grading, much closer to VG as most devices and design are outlined but details are almost completely lacking. Victoria's face is flat etc, I have many coins in this grading too and some of mine edging towards fine have some cheek detail and finer outlines of rim teeth

The 1 is a Arabic 1 (Some coins of this type have Roman I's).

Honest decent coin, probably not more than 1 - 2x Melt value though
