It has come to my knowledge a "prominent" member here has acquired the very scarce 2000 10cents/$1.00 Aussie Mule. Are there any other members of CCF that may have one in their collection

Well I think it is time to thin the herd!!! Lets scattered them out, say one in Indiana and perhaps one in Florida, if an effort to give the shepherd a little rest? I have a herd of buffalos here at my home but they were a little easier to obtain!

Nadz: The mule isn't listed in any of the catalogues yet. ebay is probably still the best determinant of market value. Here is one going on ebay - a 10-day auction, starting price 99c. Unlike many bandwagon-jumpers selling "mules" on ebay, this one seems legit to me. Keep an eye on it to see what it goes for. Back when they were first discovered, they were going on ebay for over $800, but as more are found the price falls. More recent sales still made the $400 mark.

The biggest uncertainty is, of course, how many of these things are out there. A bunch of hard-core mule-hunters (including a few familiar names from this forum) have found 88 of them so far - after searching through over a million $1 coins. To you perhaps, but not to others. Based on how often they were being found in 2004 and early 2005 I estimated about 6,000 were released into circulation. Twelve months later that number still looks around about right; given how often we are finding them now it seems that roughly 1/3 of the total number have been found.

Though WA is touted as the State in which most of the Mules are found, only one was discovered in the Pilbara region by a check out chick at the Coles Supermarket in Hedland.

The Mule is a lot rarer than what most collectors think it is.

So would I B_F, the best I have seen is S_S's WOWMule which he showed me whilst I was lying in a hospital bed in Perth. That one is a real ripper.
