Hi, even though I have been a frequent visitor to this site, this is my first post. Recently while looking for a wavy 2 on a 1966 20c coin I came across the following. Has anyone seen anything similar to this before or maybe have an idea what may have caused this?

Thanks for your replies ... it just seems so neat and tidy that I thought that maybe it was a known error.

I would keep the Coin as down the track you may see another one or find out some more Info. I had a 1920 Penny many years ago(1970's)that two Dealers told me was worthless,it had lots of tiny dots over the Reverse and I was told it was Corrosion,i found out by chance that it was in fact minted by a Pitted Die after inexperienced Staff cleaned it with an Acidic cleaner of some sort.

Hi coaster Below is my find of another pattern impressed upon the bar of the "2" in this 20 cent piece that I found some time ago. Squire

Interesting, the OP Coin could be the result of Foreign matter in the Die.

Quote: Interesting, the OP Coin could be the result of Foreign matter in the Die. This could be the case with both coins imaged on this thread. The "20" would be incused or recessed on the die and foreign matter could easily wedge itself in there and cause this. Usually when a coin has taken a "Hit" it is Not as neat as on these two coins. I like your theory Basil, It has great merit and would easily explain this

I thought I had remembered seeing something similar once before. This is from a 1980 20c coin that has the same sort of marking.
