Hands down the most comprehensive reference in this regard. Scarce book but worth it.

That is a good book, I keep my copy near my desk along side Classical deception by Wayne Sales and Numismatic Forgery by Charles Larson. That way I can refresh my memory about making coins genuine or counterfeit. You need to be constantly aware of both categories and how things are made.

The Larson book is very cool. Did he hang out with Mark Hofmann?

Westwood Arms I believe I read that he did hang out with Mark Hofmann. In case anyone who might read this is not familiar with Mark - he is perhaps the best Numismatic Forger of the 20th century. He takes credit for the 1959 Lincoln Cent with the Wheat reverse that was actually authenticated by the mint as genuine.

He also made Mormon Gold coins that were sold as genuine along with many other forged autographs and letters.

The BEST way to learn about forgery is to learn from actual forgers. I say that from personal experience as those who know me are aware.

Forgers, in particular successful ones provide many clues to the "theory and philosophy" of counterfeiting that helps to assess what are likely targets for circulating forgeries and what are not.
