I found two modern world coins that are the same size and same weight as the US Half Dollar (modern). So I thought it would be interesting to include those in my half dollar collection. They are the 50 Centavos coin from Ecuador (seems like they only minted then in 2000) and the 1/2 Balboa from Panama. I picked up cheap examples of those on ebay. I also noticed that Panama has an annual commemorative series that started in 2009 with a 50 Centesimos coin and then continues with 1/2 Balboas each year thereafter. Problem is, I can't find cheap versions of these on ebay when I take shipping charges into account. Any secrets on finding these modern world coins? I'm not used to looking for world coins beyond silver bullion. They aren't worth that much but I think it is interesting that they are both used interchangeably in both countries with US half dollars.

Well, right after I wrote that, I found someone on ebay selling the whole set uncirculated for $24 (with free shipping). The person is in Panama. But he mentions that this is the "old series." Does anyone know about a "new series" in the 1/2 Balboa denomination? Also, did the old series end in 2019?

thanks

Thanks. That is the site where I found out which countries have coins 30.6 mm in diameter. Also, it is where I saw the commemorative coins from 2009-2019. The info ends at 2019, so I was asking if a new commemorative series had been announced.

Spanish 4R is about the same size and value. Before 1850, they were the equivalent of US halves in circulation. Here's the cob version(s):

French 2F's are slightly smaller.
