I was given this as a child about 40 years ago, I believe it was a metal detecting find. We have searched online to try and find out about RMO's but didn't find much. We've been told it's a restrike, does that mean fake? We doubt it has any value but would be interested to know when it might have been made and why? We know nothing about coins and was just interested to find out a bit more about it after I found it in a box of my old childhood bits and pieces in the loft &

Damage of the hole. this is a Loudovic. France kinks has those name which is synonym also with Louis. The Loudovic effigies was: "LUDOVICUS REX PLURES NON CAPIT ORBIS," which translates as, "There is no room in the world for more than one King Ludovicus."

What you show is not a King is from a DUX which mean Duce. We has to remember that the royal family has immense territories where the brothers of the King or his children's strike theirs own coins or medals.

A better photo to be able to be deciphered. all the letters will make common sense and the photo will be very well welcome.

Other, do not keep in your hand with cotton or medical gloves. Could ruin permanently.

Thank you for the replies & we had noticed RMO (next to the bottom left hoof in the photo) stamped on it and thought it was relatively modern, is there any particular reason why someone would of made this coin?

Those coins are relatively very rare, and hard to find. In order to preserve the history, they struck those replica. Back in my time was use those replica in Europe also in the school in the History course or Latin language courses.

On my first look I never see the RMD. Thanks to others. My I was fascinated by the script.

As said by @eligius, this is a modern replica (not restrike) in base metal (not gold because the item is corroded)), of the valuable medieval coin shown here, from the reign of Ludovico Sforza, 7th DUke of Milan

Aha, thank you so much for all the information. We had no idea and only called it a restrike as another person had told us that was what it was. Good to have a definitive answer though as to its age and reason for being created. Thanks &
