Hi,
Are you guys using high end cameras to take pics of your coins? I'm trying to use my digital Camera but it won't take a clear shot, its blurry.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
James.

I have this http://www.dri.co.jp/auto/report/po...esx25005.htmIt was ~150 in 2005, but should be pretty cheap now. It has a cool feature called "Bestshot" which makes the best setting to take whatever like "collection" makes it Macro focus and etc. I think a $80 camera would be good. Just play around with the focus and the lighting (usually sunlight is the best)

Here's an example photo and the methods I used. I use a Nikon D70s with the Nikkor 60mm macro lens (which really makes the photo). Shooting from a tripod, I pick a small aperture (f29) and corresponding shutter speed. A wireless remote helps to trip the shutter without shaking the camera. But that's a pretty technical approach for most cameras, so a good start is with the tripod and setting your camera to "macro" if available. Good luck!

just adding ; check to see if your camera has a 'timer' to 'snap ' the shot for you(if you don't have a remote), verses manually pressing a button.along with macro setting, use of a 'tripod'and adjusting focus, lighting all worth a 'go'...Best of Luck I'am awaiting a Canon power shot A= macro settings Model:A720 IS.has I mage S tabilization . Camera has 8MP and 6x optical zoom i'll be adding a Macro lens and using a (home made)light box with a tripod ,but all under $225.00 including a 'wide angle'lens.off ebay seller ID. nyagent. Happy New Year

A simple but sturdy tripod will eliminate most of your blur problems. Add some decent lighting and you can take great coin photos without using a high end camera.

I have a very cheap camera and it does fine, the only thing you need is a macro setting, usually looks like a flower icon on the camera. If you have a macro setting it should clear up the burry pictures you are getting. If you can tell us what camera you are using we may be able to find some type of manual on the web and be able to tell you how to put the camera in macro mode if the camera has this function

I have found this macro lens on ebay for $32.95 buy it now. I have a Kodak Easyshare C763 digital camera. It cost me about $180 a year or so ago. When I set it on closeup (flower icon), It will not take a sharp close, image like I see in these postings and on ebay. It is somewhat less than that. My camera does not have threading for the lens where you can remove a lens and replace it with a macro. My lens is 25 mm wide. This device uses a magnetic ring that you glue on the end of the lens and the macro goes on with a magnet fitting. The ring is 23 mm inside diameter and 27 mm outside. It is a .45 macro. Is that suitable? It is a cheap solution if it will do the job. What do you experts think? I also find camera stands on ebay for about $37.00 buy it now. With this macro lens and a camera stand, maybe I can get the kind of pictures I need and not spending too much money. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. This is the ebay listing for the magnetic macro lens. It ships from Hong Kong. I'm thinking about giving it a try. http://cgi.ebay.com/Magnetic-0-45x-...LW_W0QQitemZ130277203227QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCamera_Lenses?hash=item 130277203227&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66:2%7C65:3%7C39:1%7C240:1318

Hi Coinage and big-byte.
I use an easy share camera as well. Here is what I do:
For bigger coins I use the macro setting and get the clearest shot I can. For smaller coins or for when you are trying to get a detailed shot of a specific area, I use the macro setting, hold my 10x magnifying loop over the front of the lens and take the picture. I have gotten some very good results this way with just practice and PATIENCE. Also, I have a little tripod that screws into the bottom of my digital camera (or any camera for that matter) that I picked up at the dollar store for exactly $1.15
To save yourself some upload time and frustration I would recommend taking a few of each shot because once you see it on your computer screen sometimes it isn't as clear as it looked on your camera screen. This way you can do cropping and still have your best, clear image.

Wonderful. I have some work to do. Maybe this weekend if the NFL doesn't hog too much of my time! Those are great ideas.

Alex, your shots are still better than 75% of ebay's pics!

Hello all,
Thanks for the help. I might have the technology to take reasonable photos. I just tried the magnifier on the lens thing and played with the Macro also and may be onto some thing. I'm off to the dollar store and then to home depot for a tri pod or a do-it your self tri-pod. Oh how I'd love to have pics of my finds.
I'm using a canon A540, I was begining to think it was just a paperweight when it came to my coins.
Thanks
Scott
