I've got a question about an 1889-P Morgan silver dollar that I've purchased from an auction. To me the coin looks as if there's a huge scratch or tear in the metal but it's different than any other damage that I've seen before was hoping for maybe. Some help or understanding of what it is n if its been documented or anyothers known of.

Welcome! It sounds like you have a lamination peel on your Morgan dollar. Go into ebay and type in " Morgan dollar lamination peel" to see a few possible examples. But we'd have to see a photo of your coin to be able to say that's the reason with certainty.
