I have a friend of mine that gave me this coin and it is an 1891 Seated Liberty dime and weighs 1.50 grams. I am at the point to think this is all environmental damage or intentional but part of me thinks that it may be a tapered planchet. Thoughts?

Looks damaged and perhaps further etched by acid?

Agree with coinfrog. Based on the rest of the coin condition, seems like it is just damage. And it looks like it sat in some acid or another environment that tore apart the surface

Possible thought, could be a field coin. Perhaps a farmer's tool broke off the edge and time in the ground ate away the surface. Not certain

Thanks guys. The pitting as well as an upturned lip on the thin edge pretty much tells the story. I agree that it is possible it had been buried at some point. Maybe acid damaged as well.
