Is This 1942 Penny An Error? - Coin Community Forum

RedHottGinger New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 04/12/2021 2:52 pm Came across this forum recently and I'm so excited to get some help figuring out if any of my coins are special. This one is a 1942 Wheat penny that I thought might be an error. I know it does have a fair amount of damage to it but don't know if that is what has caused the mint mark to look like this or if it is an error. Also the T in United and ES in states on the reverse are a bit peculiar. Thanks so much for your help! JimmyD Bedrock of the Community Canada 21620 Posts	Posted 04/12/2021 3:02 pm to the CCF Just looks like wear and damage. The area of the Mint Mark seems to have taken a hit. PMD (Post Minting Damage.) Remember, it is only an error if it happens during the striking of the coin, anything that happens after that is damage, no matter how. Report this Post to the Staff

ijn1944 Bedrock of the Community United States 19183 Posts	Posted 04/12/2021 3:54 pm A coin with much circulation wear and environmentally-caused discoloration. The feature where a mint mark might have been placed looks like it took a hit. Copper is a relatively soft metal and can be moved/reshaped when hit. Not that it matters, but the coin's obverse may have been cleaned long ago. Report this Post to the Staff
