The legend IN HOC SIGNO VINCES around a cross is often found on the reverse of Portuguese coins of the 16th to 19th centuries.

SO, if it is actually a coin, this could be an option.

But silver and brass does not sound like a real coin. Sounds like a plated replica of something ...
