I found this rough penny in a bag of foreign coins. It has the appearance of being a metal detector find. But what the heck, it is still an 1860 Indian head.

If anyone knows a safe way to get some of the detritus off. I would be grateful. I had it soaking in water for two days, helped a little.

I'm guessing this is pretty much lost to the ravages of time and will never have any numismatic value.
Rest in Peace

Best thing to do is to melt it down, reuse the metal to make a new one.
