Hi,

I'm thinking of buying a set of Quarters in MS-65 state. Where do I safely store 30 (or more) "slabs".

Thanks for any suggestions.

In 3 words: Safe Deposit Box!
That's where my coins are. You'll be surprised how many you can put even in a small box.

Certainly a good idea. What years are the quarters? Maybe keep them in slab boxes, one thing that I have been getting very particular about is the scratches on the slab (I hate the thought of polishing it to take a photo). I use air tight tupperware type containers with a silicone bead around the seal with two baseball card sized dessicant packs. Then keep the slabs in ziplocs to prevent scratching.

Are safe deposit boxes expensive? How much do you pay?

However, if these are just MS65 State Quarters, then why are you spending all of that money on plastic in the first place? MS65 State Quarters are pretty common and it would be hard to justify the expense of slabbing for coins that you could essentially cherrypick out of bank rolls. Also, who slabbed them?

You can probably get a safe deposit box at your bank for somewhere in the $10-$25 a year range.

I wrap my slabs in plastic wrap then stac them and put them in my safe. I'm not sure if useing plastic wrap is good for the coins but I didn't want scratches on the slabs. I'm not sure if this is the best thing to do though.

Even cheaper and more fun is to acquire Albums. Break open those silly slabs, put the coins in the albums and be able to enjoy the coins, not a pile of plastic. Keep the little tags that descibe the coins, tape on the inside of the Albums in case anyone wants to know what they are.
I use the larger safe deposit boxes and around here they run $85/year. Holds well over 25 Whitman Albums.
If opening a slab bothers you, just send them to me.
