This is my favorite coin because it was given to me by my dad. He was a carpenter, and he found this dime behind the wall in an old house that he was remodeling. There is somewhat of a tradition in home building to leave a dated memento within the walls or under the floor of a newly built home. This dime was placed neatly atop a board in the center of the wall as if it were left intentionally. I am a modest collector with a relatively small collection and most of my coins are not worth grading, but I have long considered sending this bad boy to PCGS. I would really appreciate your opinions about the grade of my favorite coin. Thanks!

Looks to be a decent coin. The photos appear to be blow-ups of low resolution images--they appear soft and somewhat muddled/'fluid-like'. Sharp pics will help us provide decent grade estimates.

1923 is common with large amount in mint state grades and many in FB, yours appear to be in XF-AU. Not worth while to send in to 3rd party grading company.

Surfaces on both sides seem very granular. Can you show is sharper images? to the CCF!

To CCF , looks like it was a fairly nice condition coin when it was placed in the wall . But I'm just not getting anywhere with a grade right now . Better photos might help .I really don't think you should send it in , probably come back AU-50. Holder that coin and keep it for sentimental reasons with a note on how it was found .

Thank you for the quality feedback, guys. I will try to get some better quality pictures of the coin to post. I am aware that this dime is not a key date or especially rare or valuable in this condition. If I ever do get it graded it will only be for presentation purposes.

Great story. Why not get a plain "do it yourself" slab and put the coin and a tribute label to your Dad in it?

keep it well protected due to sentiment, but not worth the cost of grading. Surfaces appear altered to me from these pics, could just be the pics. AU Details for me. Thanks for sharing!

I'm on the fence between XF and AU. I'd like to see a little more luster and sharper pics but I would feel comfortable with XF-45. Grade really doesn't matter much if it has a sentimental connection to your father.
