This is a recent acquisition. I think it is a Chinese banknote but I could not attribute it. This uniface note is 125mm x 65mm, dated 1949,5 and has a embossed seal in the upper right hand corner with Chinese characters and I beilieve the word "WENCHOW". As usual, any thoughts regarding attribution, age, rarity, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

My translation isn't perfect, but hopefully helps:

Top center: Central Bank of China
Under that: Gold Certificate
In the center: One Million Yuan

From 1949, obviously.

Maybe one of the P-449 series?

Not sure that is it. Image from Heritage of 449A doesn't match. Listed colors from Pick on the other 449 notes do not match either.

The Chinese characters mean:

Top center: Wenzhou Bank of China
Under that: Gold Certificate
In the center: Fifty Thousand Yuan

I didn't find this note even in China's websites, and thus have no idea what it is. In the bottom left corner, the Chinese characters saying "This promissory note is approved by this bank and will be used until the new currency arrives". So it seems a temporary note issued by a local bank just for a transition time.

Thank you so much heating81! I am wondering how to value it. Sounds like it might be rare, but is it desirable? Thanks again for the information.

It might be rare, or might be valueless. I am totally not sure for that.

I was only 950,000 yuan off, hahaha.

I'm sure it's worth something, pretty much anything from that period of Chinese history is worth (sometimes quite a bit) more than the price of a good dinner. Could always send it to PMG, let them do the legwork...
