Hi,

What is a webnote? Is that the small number at the back of the banknote?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_note

Basically, the US was trying to save money from the production of $1 notes. Currently, they're printed 32 at a time with intaglio machines. Back in the late 80s, they government thought it would be smart to print them on huge rolls of paper like newspapers with offset printing (like magazines).

But, the quality wasn't good so they scrapped the experiment.

Now the numbers on the front and back are ways to tell if they're web notes. They're there so the government can retrieve the notes from circulation to see how they stood up against usage.

No problems Glad to help

Does anyone actually have a web note? How's the printing and paper quality compared to 32-sheet intaglio ones?

wd1040,

Yes, I have a few hundred and to me the paper quality and printing quality was fine.

Here's an example of a cirulated 1995 note. A-C block, run 6, 1/9 combination.

The easiest way to identify a web note is position of the front and back plate numbers. Look at my pictures then pull a "regular" note out.
The 1 on the front is actually in correct position. The 9 on the back is ABOVE the E in ONE whereas other notes are to the bottom right of the E.

Web notes will occur on 1988A, 1993 and 1995 series $1 notes so always check them. In addition check 1995 notes for "295" engraving errors.
This is found on the back plate in it's proper postion but wrong font size.

I have some, and I don't see any difference in the paper and printing quality.
