It's hard to tell, but I think might be from a Coin Wrapping Machine. Looks a bit deep for that though.

Looks like the Wrapping Machine Damage was recent, as it is on top of the weaken circulation damage on the coin.

the mirror image letters within the green box indicate this coin was squeezed in a vise together with a dime, it's considerd PMD

I do see the lettering of a dime obverse on this nickel as stated (Great catch!!) and I have pointed this out as you can see in my edited image of the OP's coin. I truly hope that my voluntary input, sincere help and contribution to this thread won't be deleted (another story for another day but many of you know what I am referring to). Hope this helps.
