Quick question here, as I was hoping to pick one up at the local coin show in January.
Is one more expensive or rarer than the other (dated '92 pr '93) or are both roughly the same value?

thanks

The 1892 had a mintage of 600,000 less than the 1893 but the value is relatively close with the 1892 slightly higher. Personally, I would go for the 1892 for a few bucks more since the mintage is under 1 million.

In my mind, the 1892 is more desirable because it is the true anniversary of Columbus' voyage (1492-1892), but in reality they are about the same in terms of value. Good luck finding one and

ebay is consistently flooded with these pieces , I bought one from each year in excellent condition , no wear on maps or hair or anywhere on either. The 1892 did cost a bit more but I got both for around 20 bucks

both for 20$!?
Well you found a good deal, I haven't seen anything like that.

I went to a coin show last week and bought an '83 in XF condition.
It was the nicest one, for the lowest price I saw, lol.

Magman , I have a mini tripod coming and will photograph them both.Ive watched them carefully and made sure I got good ones.I ended up with 3 , 2 of them 1893.The one that looked UNC I now think was circulated and cleaned. The other two have really nice natural toning and are near unc if not unc..absolutely stunning detail.
A lot of people mistrust ebay for a lot of different reasons but for a coin like this you wont find a better selection at a widely variable price.
Dont forget to look at the little guys auctions , its where youll find the gems.

true, I always make sure to look at the little guys.
but from what I've seen they've either been cleaned, or cost too much.
I'll make sure to keep on the lookout though :)

My mini tripod arrived today all the way from China..speedy delivery and seems well constructed and lightweight.
Its not ideal for my heavier Canon A530 but takes a lot of the hassle out of a steady well shot photograph for coins and stamps I'm hoping.
Why did I buy direct from China ? Here the sellers wanted $7.99 + $5.00 shipping , I got mine for $3.00 inclusive of shipping , exact same tripod.Cant beat the price with a stick.
Ill try it out tonight with some coins , havnt figured out my lighting yet.

Mintage was
1892 - 950,000
1893 - 1,550,405

The '93 was released into general circulation
AU is 18.50 for 92, 15.50 for '93
MS60 is $28 for either
MS63 has the 92 @ $85 and '92 at $80
