Hi Guys,
I have a few of the 2008 W Mint ASEs with the 2007 reverse 'error' in the blue boxes. What kind of premium are these demanding now?
I'd like to sell at least two because I already have one in my collection.
Are these in the 09 rebook?
Thanks!

Looking on ebay, I show these are going for apx 400 buck is MS69 (slabbed) These are not in the 2009 RedBook because the RedBook came out before these were discovered. The 2009 Red Book came out in April or May of 2008 I think...

For some reason I don't really understand, the slabbed ones bring way more than govt packaged. I know the slab makes folks feel 'warm and fuzzy' about what they are buying, but geez...

ratio411..... Quote: For some reason I don't really understand, the slabbed ones bring way more than govt packaged. Well......the "slabbed ones" have been identified and graded by experts.....the "govt. packaged" ones aren't.... And espicially when you're talking "errors" or anticipating a "high grade"......that's why you "slab them" .....it's for "official proof" as to what you have. "Govt. packaged" is just millions of coins sold by the Mint. If they identified an error...it wouldn't go out. And the "Govt." certainly doesn't certify "higher grades" or "errors." Only grading companies will do that. Hence the term "slabbed" and hence the higher premium.

I think it is probably a case of people wanting to purchase one yet they do not want to do their due diligence and actually learn the diagnostic differences between a 2007 and 2008 reverse. They just throw their money down on a slab even though a mediocre picture will provide enough detail to determine the difference between the two which is quite obvious to me at least(main PUP is the lack of a tail on the U in UNITED along with a few other less obvious styling differences)

I was just marveling at how govt packaged ones are going at such a discrepancy. I get the warm and fuzzy feeling folks get from the slab, but the price difference is huge in this case. Much larger than one would reasonably expect IMO.
I know the free market is what it is...

I have no problem with slabbing this coin per say, but to have a $100+ or so price differential is kind of ridiculous for something that is easy to see. If it was a variety that required magnification to see, then I can see the justification of the price difference because people would not want to take a chance on a coin if they cannot see the design difference in smallish pictures. I liken this to people only buying coins in slabs because they are too lazy to learn how to properly grade. I am not talking about the difference between MS65 and MS66, more like the difference between VF and EF that anyone should be able to determine for most coins. The slab is simply a lazy learning crutch in this case, not an assurance of the variety and grade.

I would gladly buy an unslabbed one but I wish I had the funds back when these came out to purchase a bundle of them.

biokemist-
I opted to put it up for sale here at the CCF. Mine aren't slabbed but I imagine if I did send them out they would command a much higher premium.
But you're right, I don't think it's right for the slabbed versions of these coins to be getting so much more money than raw in the blue box.
I'm no pro but I'd imagine most people can look at these coins a realize these are nearly flawless... People shouldn't be making 100 bucks off of a 30 dollar service.
But then again HSN has these for upwards of $1000 so... maybe we're missing something
